Our Chunky Little Guy

I can't believe March is almost over. I had to hurry and post so I can make my goal of posting twice a month. I know it's not much, but it's an improvement from last year! Cade had a runny nose last week, but he is a little tough guy and was surprisingly good through all of it. We are so lucky to have him. And he actually liked the booger sucker. He would start to smile when we used it!

We went in to the doctors for a weight check on Tuesday and Cade is now 8 pounds and 6 1/2 ounces! He gained a one and a half pounds in the last month. All those night feedings are paying off. Soon I can hopefully sleep through the night again. Now that he's three months he's almost grown out of his newborn clothes!

So we're just haning' out, trying to survive until the end of the semester in about three weeks. I am looking forward to spring and sunshine and the end of the flu season.

Cade's Blessing

February has been a crazy month for us and I can't believe it's almost over. We blessed Cade on the 15th and it was wonderful. My mom made his cute little outfit! We had over 50 people come to support us and had a big dinner afterwards. Thanks to everyone who came. We felt so loved. And a special thank you to my two moms for all of their help with the dinner. You are both amazing and I hope I can be as good as you two.

Soon after that crazy weekend and everyone left, I got the flu and was down and out for the next five days. It was awful. I couldn't keep anything down so I couldn't feed Cade. Clay was wonderful and missed school and work to take care of us. I am the luckiest girl to have him. Luckily I felt better for my birthday.

Cade is over two months now and over seven pounds! I know. He's a chunkster. He is small but really strong. He likes his "tummy time" and is always moving. He lays on his stomach and squirms around so much he rolls over! He's going to be a handful when he starts crawling.

He loves to hang out and play with his Dad. Clay is still working hard as a phlebotamist and is looking forward to the end of the semester. And we recently signed up for Netflicks and have been enjoying the first season of "Psych." It's our new favorite show and we highly recommend it. So that's us. Ice Cream, Potato Arms and Receding Hairline

This ice cream is good enough to blog about. Wow! This divine flavor is our new favorite. Summed up in one word: decadent. That's all we have to say.
So I love ice cream, but I hate potato eyes that grow into arms. I pulled out my bag of potatoes to make dinner yesterday and this is what I found. I just think it's freaky. I know I'm from Idaho and I do love potatoes, but not when they look like a threat to my family. Cade is six weeks old today. He brings so much happiness to our lives. He is so close to smiling. And, he's losing his hair. Now he looks like a cute old man with a receding hairline!

Happy Birthday Mom!

This is a shout out to my Mom for her birthday. Thanks Mom for birthing me and raising me. I appreciate it so much more now that I have one of my own. And thanks for staying with us and helping me adjust to being a new mom. I hope you had a great birthday!

One Month Later . . .

So we've been parents for a whole month now and I don't think we've screwed up too badly. Cade pretty much runs our lives right now so he's all we have to post about.

He's getting used to our routine now and he's starting to enjoy bath time more. He sleeps well at night except for the occasional tummyache that keeps him up for a little bit.

Clay decided to change his major to Exercise Science instead of Microbiology this semester. He's enjoying school as much as he ever has. He loves his "Ski Instructor" class where he gets to go skiing once a week for cheap.

It's funny and somewhat sad that we don't truly appreciate something until it is gone. For example, a dumpster behind your apartment complex. One day it was gone and I am amazed how much garbage our little family of three creates. About a third of it is probably diapers. We finally got it back after a week which totally made my day.

I'm probably a mean mom, but Cade is a very good sleeper and here is the proof. It makes me laugh every time! Over 200 diapers and many lost hours of sleep later, we are still chuggin' along and enjoying our new little addition.

Our Little Tax Break for '08

Yes, we had an unexpected Christmas present this year. Here are some more pictures and a few more details of our Christmas miracle. My actual due date was January 8th. This is our little guy with my doctor/Santa Clause. Dr. Young was a wonderful doctor who took very good care of us. We had an ultrasound at 34 weeks and Cade was measuring really small. So I had to go in for tests each week and we had another ultrasound three weeks later on Monday, December 22. He hadn't grown very much and the doctor decided he would do better out than in. So we checked into the hospital that night.

It was a long night getting ready for labor. I was induced at about 10:30 the next morning. It took me ten hours to dilate to a five. I thought it would never end. And then in it took me only half an hour to dilate to a ten. All I have to say about labor is one magical word: epidural. Cade Theo Ogden was born at 10:20 that night. He decided to come out in style and had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck twice. Dr. Young said he was a champ and did surprisingly well.


Cade continued to bring us more surprises. He had jaundice so he got to live in a tanning suitcase for a couple of days. Poor guy handled it really well. His bilirubin levels went down and still looks a little yellow but he's doing better.


These past couple of weeks still don't seem real to me, but it's been so much fun to have Cade finally here and to see all of the silly things he does. When he was inside me cooking, he always had his legs crossed and up in my ribs. He still keeps his legs crossed and never puts them down into the legs of his clothes which makes it fun to change his diaper and dress him. And yes, he has already sprayed me twice. Gotta love little boys.

Here are the two men in my life. I just want to thank everyone for their prayers, love and support. We are so blessed to have this little angel in our lives now. I am so grateful that all went well with the labor and delivery. I am so excited to be a mom and now we have someone cute to post pictures of!
